Melon (Egusi) farming is one of the types of crops that Farm4me is heavily invested in.

My Team and I derive so many benefits from planting and selling melons, and in this post, I will be sharing some of the benefits with you which I believe can spur you into venturing into melon farming.

Melon seed is one of the cheapest seeds to produce, but expensive in the market. This means that you can plant melon seeds at a cheap price and market it at a much more expensive price.

In an interview with Daily Trust, Teryima Lorlamen, Seed Systems Principal Investigator of the Federal University of Makurdi, FUAM, affirmed this when he said that the cost of production is melon is cheap, but the product is expensive in the market. If a farmer wants to become a millionaire in a few years, he should go into melon farming.

As a result of their uniqueness, melon seeds can serve different functions. The melon products can be used for oil and soup, while the chaff can be used in place of firewood. You can choose any of these functions to serve your customers.

The reason most farmers ignore melon farming is that it is difficult to cultivate in hundreds as it requires heavy mechanization for harvest and the process is somewhat tedious.

Another reason farmers avoid melon farming is that as sweet as melon seeds are, they are highly prone to attacks from insects.

But I believe that if farmers can overcome these challenges in melon farming, they can maximize the goodness attached to it.
